Cron Expression Generator & Explainer

Free Online Crontab Generator & Schedule Explainer

Free Online Cron Expression Generator

Build a 5-field cron schedule with the dropdown builder, or paste any crontab expression to get a plain-English explanation and the next five run times.

How to Use the Cron Expression Generator

1. Build or Paste a Schedule

Use the five dropdowns to pick the minute, hour, day of month, month and day of week — including wildcards (*) and step values (*/N). Or paste an existing cron expression into the explainer tab.

2. Read the Plain-English Explanation

Each field is translated into a human-readable phrase, so you can verify the schedule at a glance.

3. Copy the Next Run Times

The tool calculates the next five execution times in your local timezone. Copy the expression straight into crontab, cron job schedulers, or CI pipelines.

What is a Cron Expression?

A cron expression is a string of five fields — minute (0–59), hour (0–23), day of month (1–31), month (1–12) and day of week (0–6, where 0 or 7 is Sunday) — that tells a scheduler when to run a job.

The standard crontab syntax supports the wildcard * (every value), step values such as */5 (every 5 units), lists like 1,15,30, and ranges like 9-17.

For example, */5 * * * * runs every five minutes, 0 0 * * * runs daily at midnight, and 0 9 * * 1-5 runs at 9:00 AM every weekday. This tool is useful for developers configuring Linux cron jobs, GitHub Actions schedules, AWS CloudWatch events, and most cron-compatible schedulers.
